Personal

Most people probably already know this but I hadn’t really officially announced it yet: After almost four and half years at MTV Networks I have decided that it’s time to go somewhere else. It truly has been a great time with great and innovative projects. I started as an intern there and gradually worked my way up to Senior Designer at the Digital Media department. It has been so much fun: great colleagues, all the parties, trip to Marocco, all the award shows… but it’s time to leave!

My last day at MTV will be December 24th 2009. I’m looking forward to an explosive ending during the annual MTV Christmas celebration to complete my ‘journey’ at MTV!

You might be wondering what I’m going to do next. First I’m going to work on my house, work on a personal project (to be revealed soon) and do some work as a freelancer. If you’re interested, drop me a line.

Secondly, on March 1st 2010 I start my new job at MediaMonks as Senior Designer. MediaMonks is the largest interactive media agency in The Netherlands and is mostly known for creative and innovative flash games. I can’t wait to start!

Photos from Florida

NaplesIt's been a while since I posted anything new here, please excuse me! I've been working hard on a special (personal) project which I will reveal very soon.

Last month, I and my girlfriend went on vacation to Florida (again!), I uploaded all of our photos to my Flickr photostream but forgot to write something about it. Oops :)

We went for two weeks and started off in Orlando. The day after, we drove to Clearwater to visit Honeymoon Island & Caladesi Island State Park. There's a beautiful white beach on the island and you can only go there by a small ferry. It's quiet and peaceful on the island. The next day was not so quiet when we went to Busch Gardens, a theme park slash zoo near Tampa. The theme park was alright, it has a lot of roller coasters but all in all it doesn't really compare to the Disney parks that offer more entertainment and scenery.

Next stop was Naples, a cute and beautiful town at the coast with many great shops and restaurants. We stayed in a hotel that had a private beach you can only access by using a golf cart on a boardwalk over the mangroves. Naples is pretty close to the Everglades. On our way to our next destination, Key Largo, we visited the park and even took an airboat ride in Everglades City. Wow, never imagined this would be so much fun!

We only stayed for a day in Key Largo but it was a really beautiful day. Our hotel was on the shoreline tucked away between ancient trees. The water was so clear, you could see all the fish swimming and crabs walking in the water. The next day we arrived in Key West and we stayed there for a couple of days. The first day we rented bikes and checked out the town, the day after we went on a sailing tour to some of the uninhabited keys. The sailing tour was awesome, we also went snorkelling and kayaking. We saw animals that we have never seen in our lives such as the ancient Horseshoe Crab.

After three days we left Key West to go back to Orlando. We visited some of the Disney parks in Walt Disney World such as: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach.

It was a perfect vacation, hope you enjoy our photos :)

Interview

8 Jul 2009 In: Personal

Last Friday I was interviewed by Klaasjan Tukker from Adobe at the Adobe User Group. Before the Interview I held my presentation along with other young talents such as Lowman, Jasper Schelling and Marcel Kampman. I had a great time presenting and watching the other presentations.

Anyways, here's the interview. It's in Dutch though. Topic is Spongebob.nl and the Cartoon Creator.

Just a quick message here! I haven't been able to blog for a while: it's been hectic at work as usual and also because me and my girlfriend bought a new house. So we're busy choosing a kitchen, bathroom, decoration, furniture, etc. :) Fun stuff, but also less fun stuff such as taxes, payments, mortgage. Our new home is still under construction, from time to time I post pictures on my Facebook account.

Something totally different that I wanted to share: This Friday I'll be giving a presentation at the Adobe User Group meeting in Amsterdam. Theme for this meeting is Young Talent and they asked me to show some stuff from my portfolio. So that's what I'll be doing :) For those interested, it starts at 12:30. You can get more information at the Adobe User Group website. The presentation will be in Dutch.

Next time I promise to write a little more, but for now this'll do :)

Mammoth Last weekend I finally had the chance to upload the photos we made during our last vacation to my Flickr photostream. We went on a ski road trip through the United States passing through Utah, Nevada and California visiting several ski resorts such as Northstar-at-Tahoe, Heavenly, Mammoth, Brian Head, Brighton, Deer Valley, Snowbasin, The Canyons, Solitude and Powder Mountain.

Besides skiing we also visted Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and many other attractions and parks such as Death Valley and Antelope Island. For the full collection, click here to see all photos from the road trip.

Good news, I'm back home again! So this site will hopefully come back to life again. Right now I'm trying to sort through all of my vacation photos so I can upload them on Flickr. Besides, there are still a million things on my todo list so it might take a while!

On a work related note, stay tuned for spongebob.nl :)

Where am I?

21 Feb 2009 In: Personal

Hey everybody. It's been a while since I posted but I've been really busy lately. Not only with work but me and my girlfriend also bought a new house so that's taking up a large chunk of our time. To make things even more hectic: Next Friday we're going skiing (3 weeks) in Salt Lake City and the Lake Tahoe area, but also visiting Las Vegas for some much needed rest in between. After our skiing trip we're also going to New York for a week so it looks like there won't be many new posts in the next month :)

Anyway, I'll keep you updated with pictures when I return and promise to write something when I come home!

Miami BeachBack home again! We’ve had an absolutely wonderful vacation in Florida but now we’re back home again. Obviously with lots of pictures! I’ve uploaded them all to my Flickr photostream this weekend. We went to Cocoa Beach, Miami Beach, Kennedy Space Center, Celebration, Universal Studios, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and of course Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Animal Kingdom & Typhoon Lagoon.

It surely was magical and I can’t wait to go back some day! I wouldn’t mind living in Celebration either!

On another note, I also saw that I ‘forgot’ to upload photos from our trip to California/Nevada/Wyoming/Utah last year. So I also did that this weekend. Well I didn’t forget, I just never had the time to do it… and can you blame me? I made around 2000 photos!

Florida

In just a few hours I and my girlfriend will be sitting uncomfortably, eating with plastic forks and knives, drinking from paper cups in an overcrowded airplane. Anyway, what I meant to say was: We’re going to Florida! Finally the time has come to sit back and relax on the sunny beaches of Miami and to stroll around the theme parks in Orlando. We will arrive in Orlando where we will take a short drive the next day to the eastern coastline. There we will stay in Cocoa Beach and will drive further south to Miami Beach. After a few more days we will return to Orlando to spend the rest of our vacation there in Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, etc.

Let’s hope the weather plays along, right now the outlook is scattered thunderstorms throughout our vacation. Hmmm… Oh well!

So in the meantime enjoy some of the silence on my website as I won’t be blogging until I return. I promise to bring back some pretty pictures! See you in two weeks!

MTV Away Days

3 Sep 2008 In: Personal, Work

It’s been a busy month with the launch of the TMF Video Player and then immediately after I was invited by Adobe to join the Adobe AIR Summer Camp in Dinant, Belgium. Three days of AIR programming, training and the occasional paintball sessions. I sure had a lot of fun there and it was great to meet other people interested in creating wonderful AIR applications.

MTV Away DaysAnyway, this weekend we at MTV Networks went on a three day team building session in Marrakech, Marrocco. We stayed at Club Med La Palmeraie, a little outside of this beautiful city. I took a lot of photos and I’ve uploaded some of them on Flickr. I specifically say ‘some of them’ because I do have more photos but can’t share them. It’s an MTV party after all and what happens in Marrakech stays in Marrakech ;) Click here for the photos.
