Jordi Romkema

The last few weeks of 2008 is generally the perfect time to look back to all the wonderful things we have done in the last year. Some of the things were successes and were celebrated but some of the things aren’t as visible as others. That’s why the company I work for, MTV Networks, decided to create the MTV Networks Awards. It’s an awards ceremony for MTV Networks employees to raise awareness throughout the company of the successes individuals or teams have had in the last year. There are three categories in which every employee could nominate individuals or teams. Then a shortlist was made with three nominees in each category.

A website was created and designed by me where everybody could vote for their favorite nominee. Each category has its own logo, here are the three categories:

Creative Entrepreneur Award

Being an entrepreneur means freedom, but also responsibility. Most of the time this means you fall and stand up again. We use creativity to achieve our goals. We are creative, but we aren’t necessarily artists.

At MTV Networks you get an enormous amount of freedom to be an entrepreneur. The risks are much smaller when you’re completely working on your own, which is a great thing! Being an entrepreneur doesn’t mean only doing the fun things. It means delivering a substantial and independent contribution to the targets of the organization and one of them is earning money. There’s nothing wrong about earning money. MTV Networks exists in this world thanks to the creative entrepreneurship of each employee.

Together Award

Two know and can do more than just one. We need each other in this world. Together we are strong. To work together with your colleagues you grow as a team but also as an individual. It also strengthens the connection with your co-workers.

At MTV Networks we do everything together. Almost all of the departments work together on a daily basis. We learn from each other. Joint efforts create bigger ideas so that we can become stronger and better.

Newcomer

Everybody has some sort of talent. However there are few who really excel in their talent. Talent is something to cherish and develop. This will lead to personal success and individual growth.

MTV Networks is a big talent pool. You get the space to develop yourself in a warm environment you can trust. There are colleagues leaving regularly. They are fully developed here and continue their journey elsewhere. This is something we should be proud of instead of begin sad. For example, we see our TV presenters leave and become big national TV celebrities. They are thankful for getting this opportunity from MTV Networks.
