On July 13th Dutch television channel The BOX launched their new website. With this site The BOX hopes to give their viewers more creative control of the television channel. The BOX main music genres are Hip-Hop, R&B, Classics, Dance & Reggea and viewers can request video's on television through SMS text messaging, phone or, with the introduction of this new website, also online. I was responsible for most of the technical aspects of the website. In other words: the technical concept, design, development, incorporating existing applications and the technical realization of the new sites. Besides these technical duties I was also responsible for the graphic design.

The BOX Tag

Visitors can create their own profile, a TAG. With a TAG you can get in touch with other TAG members in your area or TAG members with the same taste in music. As TAG member you can adjust everything on the website such as the colors or the organization of your personal profile. Each TAG member has their own guestbook, a weblog, a mailbox to send messages to other TAG members, a photo album where they can upload their own photo’s, the possibility to create their own polls and put these on their profile and many other fun stuff they can personalize.

Clip Request

The BOX is a unique music video channel in The Netherlands because it is totally interactive. By calling or texting to The BOX the viewer can request a music video which will be played on air almost immediately. To avoid long waiting lines there are almost 60 different television channels (boxes) scattered all over the country. A viewer in the east never sees the same music videos as a viewer in the west who is watching The BOX.

The new site also makes it possible to request music videos online. TAG members can view their Clip Request History to see when and what music video they requested through texting, phone or via the website.

TAG Credits

Normally when you request a music video through the phone or through texting you have to pay a small fee. With online clip requests you don’t have to pay with real money but with TAG Credits. If you visit a party where The BOX is represented you will get a card with a unique code. You can enter this code on the website and in return you will get an amount of TAG Credits which enables you to request more music videos.

Television shows

Besides music video’s The BOX also airs regular television programs. In the evenings you can watch shows such as Mocca, The BOX News, Chappelle’s Show, South Park, Ali G Show, Fresh Prince and many more. Shows can also be seen on the video-on-demand service BOXBlaster . The BOXBlaster also contains a live feed of the television channels so viewers will never miss a thing!
